The Presenter workspace gives the possibility to transform a montage into a linear video while keeping all the stillshots and analysis added to the montage (drawings, descriptions, keywords, voice notes)

Examples of use cases:

  • Remote coaching and motion analysis - create a movie to explain or analyse a movement and send it to an athlete
  • Highlight reels - Select the highlight of a game or a competition and create a fun and engaging video to distribute to team

Definition

A montage is a collection of video clips, events and still shots. Each of those items may contain titles, descriptions, keywords and drawings, referred as meta-data. Those meta-datas are supported when sharing montage while remaining in the Dartfish environment (dartfish.tv or Smart Cloud). However, the Make Movie is the solution designed to keep those metadata with the video by transforming them into one video that includes the still shots, titles, descriptions and keywords of all items

Create a Movie

To transform a montage into a movie:

  • Go to the Edit workspace and open an existing montage
  • Go to the Present workspace
  • Click on Theme
  • In the drop-down menu, select one of the existing default themes

The settings of the selected theme is applied on the montage. The montage is transformed into one video and the preview of that video is displayed in the player. Below the video, various tracks show where and how the montage items are integrated into the montage.

If you are satisfied with the preview, click on Export & Share and a video will be saved in a local folder. If you want to change the layouts or transitions of the various elements, read the next chapter

Create a custom theme

Montages are transformed into linear videos based on themes. A theme is a template that defines the backgrounds, texts and formatting applied on the titles. It also defines the transitions between items as well as some more advanced features such as a background music and watermark. To create a theme, click on Theme > Edit Theme. This opens the Theme Editor

On the right column, you can see all the sections of a theme that can be customized (Movie Intro/Outro, Montage Item Intro/Outro, Montage Item, etc...). Click on the Eye icon to enable (or disable) them. The Montage Item and Still Shot can't be disabled.

Select one of those sections and open the Side Panel to see the various settings of that section that can be customized

  • Duration: how long will the item be displayed in the video
  • Background: background image or fill color
  • Title: format and content of the titles (one single title, title and description, keywords, etc..)
    • Title widget: sub-part of a title that can be customize. The more complex the title, the more the widgets. Title widgets can refer to titles, descrpitons and/or keywords of the corresponding montage item
    • If the content of a title widget is too long to fit on the screen in, an automatic scrolling is implemented
Duration, description and voice notes:
The duration set is the minimum duration of the item. If the scrolling of the description or the voice note is longer than the customized duration, then the item will be displayed for the maximum value between the two

Each modification of the theme can be previewed on the video player on the left to facilitate the edition and give immediate visual feedback.

The customized tracks are applied on all the montage items of the same type, i.e. all montage item intros will have the same layout.

When the theme is ready, click on "Close" on the top right to go back to the Present workspace. Save the theme by clicking on Theme > Save Current Theme. The theme will be saved on your local drive as a .dftheme file

Themes can be shared between computers and between users by simply sending the .dftheme file by email or exchanging it over a USB key. All the medias used in the themes (backgrounds, logos, music files) are included in that file.

Add a background music

Music is a powerful way to bring life to your video and generate emotion. You can add an audio track in the background of the montage by enabling the Background Music in the additional tracks

M4V files are supported. The background music is added on top of the audio tracks of the montage items.

Customize the content of the title field

The title fields of the various Intro and Outro lets you use easily the title and description of the montage items in the Movie. It is also possible to customize and automate even more the content of the title fields and use only specific keywords, index of the item in the montage and even the publish date of the movie

When defining the content of a title field, select Edit

In the new window, it is possible to finetune the information included in the title field with macros. Click on the buttons on the right to add the macro to the title. It is possible to mix plain text with macros.
