This tutorial will guide you through the steps required for a live capture with the Live workspace of Dartfish software

Pre-requisites: have one or several video sources connected to the computer. For more information consult the article What devices can I use to get live video.

Single camera recording

  • Open the Live workspace and click on Source
  • Click on the camera name to watch the preview of the camera and click on the "+" sign to add the camera as an active source for the recording

  • The Source Properties : it allows you to edit the name of the camera, its rotation. If your camera allows it, you can also change the streaming format properties by clicking on Video Format (e.g. resolution, frame rate, bit rate, etc...). If using several cameras, you can set a Synchronization Offset. To save storage space on your computer, you can convert a video to a different profile directly during the recording (note: If you plan to publish the video on a dartfish.tv channel or on your Dartfish SmartCloud, you can also convert the video to this profile and save time during the publishing process). Click on Edit next to Recording Format.

  •  The Recording Properties: allows you to enable the fault-resistant recording. When this mode is enabled, a recording in progress will be saved even in case of a software or PC crash. This mode uses the fragmented MP4 format. In that section you can also edit the recording folder, give you session a file name and create a folder for each recording. You will also be able to set a recording duration.

  • When your camera settings are done, click on Close to come back to the Live workspace. You will now see an icon representing the selected camera next to the Setup button. Place the cursor on top of the icon to check the status of the camera. Next to it is an icon that indicates the remaining storage place on your drive

  • Enter the title of the recording and a description in the Title bar.
  • You can add keywords to the recording by using the text box of the tagging panel. More information is available on the Tagging tutorial.
  • Start the recording by clicking on the red circle above the video player. A timer and a red rectangle on the player show that the recording is in progress
  • It is possible to rewatch video while continuing to record by navigating on the timeline
  • The tagging panel is available on the right of the screen. Events tagged are displayed below the video
  • Stop the recording by clicking on the red square on top of the video
  • Once the recording is stopped, the Presenter mode is automatically opened and offers the possibility to quickly check the recording video.
  • Two advanced settings can disable or enable the timer when clicking on Stop recording and the automatic opening of the presenter mode. They are available under Tools > Options > Advanced

Multi-cameras Recording (Pro S required)

It is possible to record up to 4 cameras at the same time using the Dartfish Pro S software. The recording creates a multi-views document linking the cameras and the tags together. When this document is opened in Dartfish, all the cameras are displayed and synchronized.

The process is similar to the single camera recording:

  1. Cf. single camera recording
  2. Up to 4 cameras can be selected in the Setup page. Only simlar devices and video profiles are supported for multi-camera recordings
  3. . Cf. single camera recording
  4. It is possible to display each camera separately or all cameras at the same time. The cameras are defined as A, B, C and D based on the order they have been selected in point 3.

A multi-cameras recording creates a Dartfish multi-views document. In Dartfish software, this document will appear as one single item in the tray. One dartclip and one video per camera are created. In addition, one notebook is also created and contains the synchronization between the videos. Opening one video or the notebook will always open the multi-views document as a whole.

On-field mode - tag a game without video

The On-field mode changes the layout of the software so that the video player is removed and gives more

space for the tagging panel and data reports. The On-field mode serves two purposes:

  • Record and tag a video while having a screen optimized for the tagging panel, the event pane and the report pane.
  • Tag a game without recording any video. This is especially useful when no video feed is available during the game

Activate the On-field mode by ticking the corresponding box on the top left of the workspace.
