Purpose and scope
Learn how to create playlists on dartfish.tv — either manually by selecting events or automatically using smart filters that update as new content is added. Playlists allow you to focus on key moments, organize highlights, and prepare content for review or sharing.
Smart playlist vs manual playlist
There are two types of playlists on dartfish.tv:
- Smart playlists — automatically generated from searches or filters. Example: all Goals events or all videos tagged Training Session. Smart playlists stay up to date: when new videos or events match your filters, they are added automatically.
- Manual playlists — created by hand, one or more events at a time. These playlists can combine events from multiple videos and can later be shared or used for collaboration.
Create an Empty Manual Playlist
You can create an empty playlist first, then add events later.
To create an empty playlist:
- Click Create playlist — a dialog window appears.
- Enter a name and an optional description.
- (Optional) Check Collaborate to allow others to edit the playlist.

The new playlist appears under Playlists in the left menu and is ready to receive video events.
Create a Manual Playlist
You can create a new playlist directly from a selection of events.
To create a playlist:
- Open the video that contains the events you want.
- Hover over an event to display the available options.
- You can:
- Add a single event: Click Add event to playlist, or click the ellipsis (⋮) on the event and select Add event to playlist from the menu.
- Add multiple events: When hovering with the mouse, select several events. A multi-select toolbar will appear — click Add event to playlist from this toolbar.
- The Add to playlist dialog appears.
- Select an existing playlist, or
- Click New playlist to create one.
- When you start typing a name, the list below filters automatically to show matching playlists — helping you avoid duplicates.
- Once selected or created, click Add to confirm.
Create a Smart playlist
A smart playlist automatically collects all events from the videos that match your search or filters.
For example:
- You can create a smart playlist containing all “Goals” events tagged in your channel, or
- Create a playlist based on video keywords such as “Training Sessions” — in this case, all events from the filtered videos will be included.
When new videos or events matching your criteria are added to the channel, your smart playlist will automatically update to include them.
To create a smart playlist:
- From a dartfish.tv channel, perform a search or use filters to refine the content.
- You can filter by video keywords, event keywords, or a combination of both.
- You can also use navigation trees to browse specific categories.
- The resulting list of videos (and their related events) defines the scope of your playlist.
- You can save the results as a smart playlist in two ways:
- Click Save as Smart Playlist in the top-right corner of the results page, or
- Click View playlist> to preview the filtered results, then click Save as Smart Playlist in the top-right corner.
- In the Save the playlist as... window, enter a name and an optional description, then click Save.
Your smart playlist is now created and appears under Playlists in the left menu. It will automatically update whenever new matching videos or events are added to the channel.
